The Story

Another beautiful Big Boys reissue from Light in the Attic, and this time it's the Big Boys' final album from 1985. In my opinion this final Big Boys record is still a back-to-front classic, but it's an overall much less cohesive record than its predecessor, Lullabies Help the Brain Grow. It's almost like you can feel the band splintering and moving in different directions. The thing is, though, that even though the Big Boys approach a bunch of different styles on this record they totally rule at all of them, so whether it's the bleak, Black Flag-informed "No," the Husker Du-ish "Narrow View" (seriously, you could drop this into the middle of Metal Circus and no one would be the wiser), or the Gang of Four-ish "I Do Care" you're always getting absolute top-shelf stuff. I love how there's almost something cocky about this record, like the band is saying "oh, you like band X? Well, we can do their thing even better than they can!" So, even though this listens more like a great mix tape than a cohesive album, it's still absolutely brilliant and essential.
